You can't turn on the radio or television, pick up a newspaper, magazine, or surf the web any more without reading about a disaster somewhere. With Towns and Communities throughout the Nature Coast, Dixie County is vulnerable to several different hazards.
While many people perceive Emergency Management personnel to be the "hurricane people", nothing could be farther from the truth. Emergency Management exists to protect our Community by coordinating all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to mitigate against (lessen the impact), prepare for, respond to, and recover from all types of hazards including accidents, technological events, natural disasters and pandemic influenza.
All-hazards emergency management ensures that if a disaster occurs, people are ready to get through it safely, and respond to it effectively. An all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness encourages an effective and consistent response to any disaster or emergency, regardless of the cause. To help you prepare, please take the time to review the various hazards and take the necessary steps to become better educated and better prepared.
Each of us has the ability to take the steps that will lessen the burden of a disaster's impact on ourselves and our communities.
